Holding Pattern

The message is there, if you’re willing to listen. I heard the message coming through loud and clear. In many ways. In several countries. The message was: Make Baskets! I started to take some notes, in my sketchbook. There were nine of them. It started in Japan in January. I was in Tokyo at the Mori Art Museum to see a Louise Bourgeois retrospective. The message began in the gift shop. I saw a bunch of flat packages designed by architecture firm Torafu. They were called Air Vases. Take them out of the package and they are laser cut paper which you pull out and the form accordions into beautiful shapes you can form.
